The method involves painting a hinge (16), and painting a longitudinal carrier (18) in an assembly region (34) of the hinge. The carrier is assembled at a motor vehicle shell, and the hinge is assembled at the carrier. The hinge is screwed to the carrier using electrolytically coated screws. The hinge is provided with an upper plate (20), which is connected with a bonnet (10), and a lower plate (22) defined at the carrier. The carrier is completely painted by gluing and riveting processes. The plates are swingably interconnected over two hinge arms (24, 26).
