The arrangement has a transparent cover element for covering a viewing opening, where the opening is provided for viewing a theft protection mark (14) i.e. vehicle identification number (VIN). The mark is provided at a lateral component e.g. column part and side wall part, of a body of an automobile in a transverse direction behind a plank part. The cover element is held at the plank part, and a sealing element seals the cover element and the plank part against each other. A transparent corrosion protection coating covers the mark.
