The method involves starting a discharge mode and/or a charge mode of a traction battery (T) by a battery managing device (1) when minimum current is taken from or provided to the traction battery by a power connection (4), or a minimum charging voltage is applied to the power connection. Operation data of the battery are wirelessly transmitted to a mobile machine (A) or a charger by a bidirectional radio communication interface (10) during the discharge mode and/or the charging mode in which the battery is electrically connected to the machine or the charger via the power connection. The operating data are chosen form battery voltage, current intensity, capacity, residual charge, temperature, age of the battery, charge state of the battery, state of battery cells, state of health of the battery, and state of the managing device.
