An electronic control unit (ECU) (64) estimates the fuel temperature of fuel in a fuel injection valve (24) when dwell-correspondence value increases the dwell time of fuel in fuel injection valve from time of entry into fuel injection valve through a fuel inlet (40). The fuel temperature is made to reach the temperature of fuel injection valve when there is a difference between the temperature of fuel injection valve and temperature of the fuel inlet. The injection quantity of fuel out of fuel injection valve is controlled based on estimated fuel temperature. An independent claim is included for method for controlling fuel injection.
