The utensil (1) has a separator unit (8) including a trough i.e. spoon bowl (9), that receives yolk and white of an egg, where the unit is the form of spoon. The trough is pierced with an elongated discharging orifice (10) that discharges only the white. A yolk evacuation pipe (12) forms a handle and evacuates the yolk separated from the white. The unit is articulated around a horizontal axis so as to be passed from one position in which the trough is situated above the pipe with respect to the axis, to another position in which the trough is situated below the pipe with respect to the axis. An independent claim is also included for a method for separating white and yolk of an egg using a cooking utensil.
