The method involves detecting pressure waves in brake liquid (8) using a pressure sensor (11) for a prolonged period of time after stopping a vehicle i.e. automobile, and determining if the pressure waves correspond to a cavitating phenomenon in the brake liquid. An alarm signal is sent for restarting the vehicle if the brake fluid undergoes a cavitating phenomenon. Downtime is measured after stopping the vehicle. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a hydraulic braking system comprising a pressure sensor (2) a vehicle comprising a hydraulic braking system.
