The device (1) has a floor (11) forming a lid above a lintel. A retracting unit (14) i.e. spiralift(RTM: platform lift system) type retracting unit, retracts an armchair (2) in the lintel and deploys the armchair such that the floor primarily extends in a back part of the armchair in a deployed position of the armchair. The armchair is provided with a base (16) and a backrest (17) carried by posts (18) and arranged such that the posts are off-set horizontally beyond the lintel in the deployed position of the armchair. An independent claim is also included for a retractable step system comprising a configuration changing unit.
