The method involves providing autonomous safety lighting blocks (21) that assure ambiance and/or evacuation lighting in a building, to a safety system, where each block comprises a lighting module (210) with an emergency LED light source and is connected to a remote control circuit (23) coupled with a remote control case (22). A pulsed mode operation of the light source is controlled by the remote control case and the remote control circuit so as to generate emission of pulsed light signals from the blocks. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) autonomous safety lighting block to assure ambiance and/or evacuation lighting in a building in case of failure of normal lighting of the building (2) a remote control case for centralized control of autonomous safety lighting blocks (3) a system for signaling an alert status in a building.
