The method involves receiving a signal containing a sequence of input numbers, from a control device i.e. TV remote control (1), through selection of successive numbered keys of the control device, where the keys are associated to a set of characters of name of a TV channel to be selected. A code is determined from the sequence of input numbers. The determined code is compared to a set of predetermined codes associated to a set of TV channels to identify one channel, and the identified channel is selected. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an equipment for selecting a channel from a set of TV channels and for cooperating with a control device, comprising a reception unit (2) a computer program for selecting a channel from a set of TV channels.
