Device for measuring geometric parameter i.e. bend, of e.g. meter gauge on which wagon circulates, has light source, photodiode, optical filter and convergence unit positioned on rolling units to allow direct measurement of parameter
The device (20) has an optical filter modifying light intensity of a light beam (28) from a light source (21) e.g. laser diode, where the modified beam comprises information about a geometric parameter to be determined. A convergence unit i.e. pair of converging lenses, converges the modified beam towards a photodiode (22). A calculation unit calculates the parameter from a signal measured by the photodiode. The source, the photodiode, the filter and the convergence unit are positioned on rolling units e.g. axles (12a, 12b), of a vehicle (10) to allow direct measurement of the parameter. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for measuring a geometric parameter of a railway track (2) a system for locating a defect of a geometric parameter on a railway track (3) a method for locating a defect of a geometric parameter on a railway track.
