The device has an extension floor (3) that is secured to a motor vehicle (2) and projects outside a passenger compartment (7) of the vehicle when a boot opening frame (5) is in an open position. A foldable casing (15) passes from a folded position in a storage frame to a deployed position in which the casing forms an extension volume of the passenger compartment while covering the extension floor. A foldable casing deployment unit i.e. gripping handle, is provided independent of a pivoting unit of the opening frame. The gripping handle is actuated by traction for deploying the casing.
