The method involves measuring a quantity representative of the temperature of an electrical connection socket (50) connected to the mains, and transmitting the measurement of the quantity representative of the temperature to an electrical device (30) e.g. electric vehicle. An overheated state is determined by the electrical device by comparing the measurement with an overheating threshold. Passage of electricity from an electricity distribution network into the electrical connection socket is limited or cut by the electrical device according to the determination of the overheating state. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an electrical connection socket comprising a temperature measuring unit (2) an electrical device comprising a switch.
