The device has a processing device with diagnosis units for detecting (121) states of respective LEDs. Current controlling units control current when a lighting system is supplied with voltage. Direct voltage control units control the direct voltage control when the lighting system is supplied current during operation. A diagnostic result is processed (123) by a set of processing units e.g. alarm and stopper, when the current exceeds a threshold during supplying the voltage to the system and when the direct voltage falls below a threshold during supplying the current to the lighting system. An independent claim is also included for a method for diagnosing LED lighting systems.
