The tool has a gripper (11) comprising a reservoir (12) for receiving a dental reinforcement preform before polymerization. An application and shaping unit (14) applies and shapes the reinforcement preform, where the reinforcement preform has tubular shape in initial state and adopts band or ribbon shape after crushing. The application and shaping unit comprises a tip (16) that is opaque to light radiation, where the tip is terminated by an application head (17) that is transparent to light radiation. An independent claim is also included for a dental reinforcement preform.
