The method involves processing data by a processor (CPU) of an autonomous auxiliary device (DIS) connected to a gateway (INT), and communicating with the gateway in a client/server mode, where the auxiliary device plays the role of a server and/or a client. A software application is executed in the auxiliary device for processing the data intended for and/or output from equipment (PC2) connected to a local area network (LAN), where the auxiliary device is connected to a physical port of the gateway by a universal serial bus (USB)connection. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a data processing device (2) a computer program for data processing.
