A method of geological storage of a gas including storage monitoring by geochemical analysis of rare gases. The gas, containing a species to be stored such as CO2, and rare gases, is injected into a formation of the subsoil. A rare gas diffusion model and a diffusion model of the species to be stored are chosen. The concentration of the rare gas before and after injection is measured in an area of the subsoil likely to be reached by the species to be stored. When the concentration of the rare gas increases, the rare gas diffusion model is modified to be consistent with the measurements, and a modification of the diffusion model of the species to be stored is deduced. Finally, from the latter, the quantity of the species to be stored dissolved at a time t is determined.
