The installation (1) has a probe that is mounted on an underground pipe (3) for obtaining information related to the pipe or fluid circulating in the pipe. A support (4) is mounted on the pipe, and the probe is assembled in the support. An access tube (5) e.g. PVC tube, extends between the probe and a ground surface (S), and a key (8) is adapted to pass through the tube. The key cooperates with the probe to assemble or disassemble the probe when the key is actuated from the ground surface, and/or to move the probe with the key when the key is moved up or down through the tube. An independent claim is also included for a method for replacing a probe mounted on an underground pipe.
