PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable continuous cooling of the inside of a reactor containment vessel as long as possible by efficiently using a limited amount of cooling water pooled.SOLUTION: A reactor containment vessel internal cooling system 1 includes: a cooling coil 3 which is supplied with cooling water and cools inside a reactor containment vessel 2; cooling water supply means 8, 9 and 10 for supplying cooling water to the cooling coil 3; a water supply adjustment valve 11 for adjusting the amount of cooling water supplied; a cooling water drain valve 12; supply and drain water flow rate sensing units 13 and 15 for individually sensing flow rates of cooling water on the upstream side and downstream side of the cooling coil 3; supply and drain water pressure sensing units 14 and 16 for sensing cooling water pressure in the cooling coil 3; an internal temperature sensing unit 18 for the reactor containment vessel 2; an internal pressure sensing unit 19 for the reactor containment vessel 2; and a control unit 21 which sets the aperture of the water supply adjustment valve 11 on the basis of sensed information from each of the sensing units such that the internal temperature of the reactor containment vessel 2 is kept at or below a specified temperature and the cooling water flow rate is kept at a required minimum.
