IMAGE PROCESSING METHOD FOR CHARACTER RECOGNITION, CHARACTER RECOGNITION APPARATUS USING THE SAME, AND PROGRAM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To significantly improve accuracy of segmentation a row of a character string.;SOLUTION: A search area 101 is set in a range in a gray image where character strings are distributed. For each of a plurality of points Pi arranged along a y-direction corresponding to arrangement of rows of the character strings in two axes (x-axis, y-axis) indicating a coordinate in an image, a plurality of lines (L_U, L_D or the like) crossing the search area 101 from the point Pi are set, to calculate a cumulative value of image data in each line. The maximum value of the cumulative value in a line group set for each of the points Pi is determined, and a local maximum value in a distribution pattern is specified, which is to be generated when the maximum values for the points Pi are arranged along the arrangement of the points. The line where the cumulative value corresponding to the specified local maximum value is obtained, is used as a line passing through the character string, to detect a character string in the image for each row, on the basis of the line.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT
