PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide compositions and methods useful for treatment or suppression of diseases due to mitochondrial disorders, such as Friedreich's ataxia, Leber's Hereditary Optic Neuropathy, Kearns-Sayre Syndrome, and mitochondrial myopathy, encephalopathy, lactacidosis, stroke (MELAS), and for modulating energy biomarkers in a subject.SOLUTION: The present invention provides compounds useful in treating or suppressing mitochondrial disorders, and methods of using such compounds for modulating of energy biomarkers. The redox active therapies for treatment or suppression of mitochondrial diseases and associated aspects of the invention are described in more detail herein.
