PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle reverse travel detection device capable of properly detecting that one's own vehicle is traveling reversely.SOLUTION: A vehicle reverse travel detection device includes: own vehicle position detection means 20 for detecting a position of one's own vehicle; travel direction detection means 20 for detecting a travel direction of the own vehicle; map information acquisition means 10 for acquiring map information including road types and passable directions of roads; exit position detection means 10 for detecting a junction point where one express way and one open road are connected together without connecting to another road as the exit position of the express way on the basis of the map information; determination area setting means 10 for setting a reverse travel determination area for determining whether or not the own vehicle is traveling reversely on an express way to a position based on the exit position of the express way; and reverse travel determination means 10 for determining whether or not the own vehicle is traveling reversely on the express way in the reverse travel determination area on the basis of the map information, the position of the own vehicle, and the travel direction of the own vehicle.
