PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To fully perform cesium absorption capability of bacterial cells of SSI strain and to easily collect bacterial cells after cesium absorption without using a carrier for immobilizing bacterial cells in a method for decontaminating an environmental medium contaminated with radioactive cesium.;SOLUTION: The method is for decontaminating an environmental medium contaminated with cesium by absorbing cesium in the environmental medium selected from sludge, soil, and water with bacterial cells of SSI strain and collecting the bacterial cells absorbing cesium from inside the environmental medium. By drying up mixed liquid where polysaccharide is added to liquid suspension of the SSI strain bacterial cells, an aggregate of granular bacterial cells are created, the aggregate of bacterial cells are put in a container composed by a mesh material having meshes large enough not to allow the aggregate of bacterial cells to pass but to allow the environmental medium to pass, the container is in contact with the environmental medium and cesium in the environmental medium is absorbed by the bacterial cells of the aggregate of bacterial cells, and the aggregate of bacterial cells absorbing cesium are collected from inside the environmental medium.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT
