PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of calculating an index for determining the necessity of a jawbone surgery in orthodontic treatment and a program therefor, capable of easily calculating an index for determining the necessity of a jawbone surgery as objective information for a dentist to determine whether or not a jawbone surgery is necessary for a patient in orthodontic treatment of the patient, and enabling the dentist to make a more highly objective and accurate diagnosis easily in a short time by appropriately and simultaneously using results of other inspection methods.SOLUTION: By using a distance (S-A) between S and A, a distance (S-B) between S and B and a distance (Go-Me) between Go and Me measured by cephalometric radiography of a patient to calculate P=((S-B)+(Go-Me))/(S-A), an index for determining the necessity of a jawbone surgery in orthodontic treatment is calculated. On the basis of the index for determining the necessity of a jawbone surgery, the necessity of the jawbone surgery is determined.
