PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for calculating a residual capacity of a secondary battery, a battery drive device, a battery pack, and an information processing system which can calculate a residual capacity of an exchanged new battery pack including a secondary battery having a different parameter for calculating the residual capacity by reducing the calculation error of residual capacity.SOLUTION: On detecting a battery pack 101 being attached, a CPU 51 of an FGIC 5 transmits a request to read out a residual capacity calculation table (parameter) of a secondary battery 1 from an EEPROM 22 of the battery pack 101 to a communication unit 21 of the battery pack 101 via a communication unit 55, receives the table from the communication unit 21 of the battery pack 101, and calculates a residual capacity of the secondary battery 1 on the basis of the received table. While, the communication unit 21 of the battery pack 101 receives the request to read out the residual capacity calculation table from the communication unit 55 of the FGIC 5, reads out the table from the EEPROM 22, and transmits the read out table to the communication unit 55 of the FGIC 5.
