PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for evaluating the birefringence of a novel adhesive, a method for designing and a method for producing an adhesive using the evaluation method, and to provide the adhesive obtained by the production method, and a polarizing plate and a liquid crystal display device using the obtained adhesive, and to provide a method for manufacturing the polarizing plate and the liquid crystal display device.SOLUTION: The method for evaluating the birefringence of an adhesive includes the steps of: preparing a laminate film comprising a polymer film as a support having an absolute intrinsic birefringence of 1×10or less and an absolute photoelastic coefficient of 1×10Paor less and an adhesive applied on the support; thermally stretching the laminate film; and measuring the retardation of the laminate film after thermally stretched and the thickness of the adhesive layer.
