PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To store an operation state for an abnormal period depending on an injection state when an accidental fire occurs.SOLUTION: An accidental fire failure detection device for an internal combustion engine stores: operation states (engine speed, load ratio, warmup state) of an internal combustion engine (engine), and injection states (DUAL injection, DI injection, PFI injection) when the accidental fire occurs; obtains an in-failure operation state for the injection states; determines what the in-failure operation state is based on the number of the accidental fire for the respective injection states where the accidental fire occurs within a detection period of the accidental fire failure; and stores the in-failure operation state in the determined in-failure injection state. The processing enables to store the in-failure operation state and the injection state when the accidental fire occurs, and enables to properly perform normal-state-restoring determination when performing the normal-state-restoring determination after the accidental fire failure is detected.
