PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetically and optically active new polythiophene derivative exhibiting chiral optical activity due to a structure between helices of main chains resulted from chiral aggregation between polymer main chains, and magnetic activity due to a stable radical held by the polymer, and a method for producing the same.;SOLUTION: The polythiophene derivative is synthesized by reacting bis(trialkyl-stannyl) thiophene compound with 2,5-Di-tert-butyl-4-(2,5-dibromothiophene-3-yl) phenoxytrimethylsilane as a thiophene derivative in a cholesteric liquid crystal medium in the presence of a palladium catalyst. Then, a phenolic hydroxy group protected by a trimethylsilyl group is deprotected and oxidized to yield the polythiophene derivative as a corresponding polyradical chiral polymer.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
