PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a database creation method for determining a paint color belonging to a desired color category.SOLUTION: The database creation method includes: a step S31 for recording spectral reflection factor data of a plurality of paint colors in a recording part correspondingly to codes inherent in respective paint colors; a step S33 for recording an evaluation value of a color category of a sample paint color selected from among the plurality of paint colors in the recording part correspondingly to the code of the sample paint color; a step S34 for calculating feature values expressing color categories about the plurality of paint colors by using the spectral reflection factor data, and recording the feature values in the recording part correspondingly to respective codes; a step S35 for using the feature value and evaluation value of the sample paint color as learning data and learning a neural network having an input unit corresponding to the feature value and an output unit corresponding to the evaluation value of the color category; and a step S36 for inputting a feature value of a paint color other than the sample paint color to the learned neural network and recording output data in the recording part correspondingly to the code of the inputted paint color.
