PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a focused image for every pixel location from a plurality of captured images with different focal positions, and height information in a global range, in a well focused state.SOLUTION: The method for generating omnifocal image includes the steps of: acquiring a plurality of images with different focal positions (step S1); acquiring a gray scale image from each image (step S5); performing wavelet transformation for the gray scale image and generating a multiple resolution image (steps S6-S13); generating a probability distribution relating to the focal positions on the basis of the multiple resolution image (step S14); approximately calculating an optimal focal position, for every pixel location, in which a performance index obtained by adding a cost function and a penalty function based on the probability distribution, becomes minimum, using a probability propagation method (steps S17-S20); and generating a focused image for every pixel location and height information from the optimal focal position (step S22).
