PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reversibly controlling a self-organizing polymer film which reversibly controls the conjugated state and/or the optical property of a polymer chain and/or a polymer assembly and/or circular dichroism. PSOLUTION: The method of reversibly controlling a self-organizing polymer film comprises imparting at least one stimulus selected from the group consisting of contact with a solvent, heat, pressure, stretching, light, magnetic field and electric field to a polymer film whose polymer chain has a spiral structure to allow the spiral direction to change or to reversibly change and allowing at least one property selected from the group consisting of the spiral pitch, the spiral structure, the crystal structure of the polymer, and the molecular orientation of the polymer to change or to reversibly change at least one of the above properties to reversibly control the conjugated state and/or the optical properties of the polymer chain and/or the polymer assembly and/or circular dichroism.
