PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a methane-containing gas from an ethanol-containing raw material efficiently without depositing carbon on the surface of a catalyst and also without inviting increased cost and the increased discharging amount of carbon dioxide on its production, and the catalyst for the production of the methane-containing gas, used for the method. PSOLUTION: This method for producing the methane-containing gas from the ethanol-containing raw material containing the ethanol and steam is provided by comprising a process of passing the ethanol-containing raw material by one time at a ≥400°C reaction temperature over a precious metal-carrying catalyst carrying by dispersing rhodium, ruthenium or their mixture as the precious metals by the ≥25% degree of dispersion on the surface of an inorganic oxide which is a carrier.
