PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for estimating junction feature, which can predict the amount of traffic in a crossing side road. PSOLUTION: The device for estimating junction feature is provided with: a travelling state detection means 2; a vehicle position detection means 4; a stopping junction determining means 16; a travelling information accumulation means 6 for accumulating the junction proceeding behavior information for the vehicle to an accumulation section 7 when proceeding into a stopping junction which is determined by the stopping junction determining means 16; a junction proceeding behavior acquiring means 28 for acquiring the junction proceeding information corresponding to the stopping junction which is the subject from the accumulation section 7; and a crossing side road traffic amount estimation means 18 for estimating the amount of traffic in the crossing side road which is crossed at the stopping junction which is the subject, based on the information of junction proceeding behavior acquired by the means 28 and a predetermined traffic amount estimation reference value. The traffic amount estimation reference value is set based on the relationship of known junction proceeding behavior information which is the known information and the known traffic amount which is the traffic amount which is known.
