A solar cell comprising: a first region, wherein the first region comprises a homojunction, a top surface, and a bottom surface; a second region coupled to the first region to passivate the top surface of the first region, wherein an interface of the first region and the second region comprises a first heterojunction; and a third region coupled to the first region to passivate the bottom surface of the first region, wherein an interface of the first region and the third region comprises a second heterojunction.
