P To provide an apparatus and method for measurement of polarization characteristics and capable of performing a real-time measurement. PSOLUTION: A light is emitted from a light source 12, and enters into a sample 30 through a polarizer 22 and a first 1/4 wavelength plate 24. The light is transmitted through the sample 30, and enters into a top of a conical mirror 62 through a second 1/4 wavelength plate 42 and an analyzer 44. A ratio between a main axis orientation at each position ON the first 1/4 wavelength plate 24 and a main axis orientation at each position ON the second 1/4 wavelength plate 42 is configured to be 1: N.A camera 50 captures an image of a ring beam RP projected onto an inner surface of a cylindrical screen 60, and outputs an image data to an arithmetic device 70.
