Contour extraction device and method thereof, which extracting contour points according to images of sheet materials photoed by camera, then figuring out outside contour represening shape of the sheet materials and inner side contour located therein. Area between the inner and the outer contour is used as wrinkle, then figuring out ratio of long diameter and short diameter of shape of the wrinkle, and wrinkle with bigger ratio is used as a strong wrinkle and the smaller one is used as a weak wrinkle. The cut workpieces are distributed onto the sheet materials according to grade of the wrinkles. The invention can figure out shape of the wrinkle and can utilize wrinkle part effectively.
