PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a holding object for reinforcing an electrolyte membrane capable of stably stacking while preventing damage on an electrolyte membrane. PSOLUTION: The holding object 40 for reinforcing the electrolyte membrane is provided to reinforce an outer peripheral edge section 21 of an electrolyte membrane 2 of an electrolyte membrane-catalyst layer assembly 10 or an electrolyte membrane-electrode assembly 20. A welding layer 42 is also provided capable of welding to the electrolyte membrane-catalyst layer assembly 10 or the electrolyte membrane-electrode assembly 20, and two reinforcing sheets 4 wherein an easily-removing zone 44 capable of easily removing is formed on the center section for forming an opening 45. The reinforcing sheets 4 are arranged to make the welding layers 42 face each other, the electrolyte membrane-catalyst layer assembly 10 or the electrolyte membrane-electrode assembly 20 can be inserted between the reinforcing sheets 4, and at least parts of outer peripheral edges 43 are welded to each other so as to mutually maintain each easily-removing zone 44 in an aligned state.
