PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide ethylene carbonate, particularly with extremely reduced content of diols. PSOLUTION: The refining method for ethylene carbonate comprises: letting down a crude ethylene carbonate crystal from the top of a tower; melting the carbonate crystal on a tower bottom; extracting a part of the obtained melt from the tower; and ascending the remainder of the melt as a reflux liquid to perform the counter flow contact with the descending crude ethylene carbonate crystal.
