Functional group-selective hydrogenation catalyst for an organic compound containing at least a functional group of an aliphatic carbon carbon double or triple bond, an aromatic formyl group and an aromatic nitro group, comprises a carrier, a palladium and an organic sulfur compound. An independent claim is included for a method for the functional group-selective hydrogenation comprising subjecting wet-hydrogenation of the organic compound in the presence of the selective hydrogenation catalyst, where the hydrogenation takes place depending on the functional group.
