PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling the absorption zone of an optical film, with which the width of the absorption zone of the optical film can be easily controlled, and to provide a method for producing the optical film, the absorption zone-controlled optical film, a color purity-improved sheet, and an image display device. PSOLUTION: The method for controlling the absorption zone of the optical film, includes: applying a coating liquid containing a matrix polymer and an ionic pigment to a base material to form a coating film; and controlling the half-value width of a maximum absorption peak of an absorption spectrum of the optical film obtained by drying the coating film, wherein, the half-value width is controlled by adding fluorinated alcohol to the coating liquid when coating the base material.
