[Problem] To provide a system for calculating a response speed of a display device, and a method for calculating a response speed of a display device and whereby an accurate response speed can be calculated even if a backlight is pulse-driven. [Solution] This system for calculating a response speed of a display device is provided with: a pulse-driven first light source; a second light source and which emits light in a wavelength range different from that of the first light source; a display unit, which transmits light emitted from the first light source and displays an image by changing a transmission quantity corresponding to an input image signal; a measuring unit, which is attached to the display surface side of the display unit for the purpose of measuring the quantity of the light that passed through the display unit and said light having been emitted from the second light source; and a response speed calculating unit and which calculates the response speed of the display unit ON the basis of measurement results obtained from the measuring unit.
