PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multimode ionization source that can provide the advantages of combination of a plurality of ion sources, is not subjected to restrictions of individual ion sources, and does not require switching nor manual operation.;SOLUTION: The multimode ionization source is provided with one or more atmospheric pressure ionization sources 3, 4. These ionization sources can perform electrospray ionization, atmospheric pressure chemical ionization and/or atmospheric pressure photoionization sources, and are used for ionizing molecules from a sample 21. A method of generating ions using the multimode ionization source is also disclosed.
