It is intended to provide a composition for treating cancer, characterized by containing an RNAi nucleic acid, an antisense nucleic acid or an antibody to DREF, which inhibits the in vivo function of a human cell growth regulator, DREF, or DREF gene in a cancer cell or a cancer tissue, and a screening method for an agent for treating cancer by using as an index, inhibition of expression of DREF gene or translation of DREF protein or cell growth inhibition, cell cycle arrest and/or cell death induction in a cultured human cancer cell or a DREF high-expression cell line.
