PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-strength aluminum alloy for high-pressure hydrogen gas and an aluminum alloy clad material for high-pressure hydrogen gas, which are superior in hydrogen embrittlement resistance and can be used for a structural member. PSOLUTION: The aluminum alloy for high-pressure hydrogen gas has a composition comprising, by mass%, 2.0 to 6.0% Cu and 0.4 to 2.0% Mg in such a range that a quantity ratio of Cu to Mg satisfies Cu/Mg1.3, and the balance aluminum with unavoidable impurities, shows sufficiently low hydrogen embrittlement sensitivity, and provides high strength when having been subjected to appropriate heating treatment. The aluminum alloy obtained by further adding an appropriate amount of transition elements of Mn, Cr, Zr, Sc and V to the above aluminum alloy and distributing these dispersion particles that contain these elements as main components in a matrix at an appropriate density is most suitable for a member required to have superior fatigue characteristics.
