PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of cutting a weather strip or the like using a versatile mandrel to obtain a clean cutting plane at a connecting portion. PSOLUTION: A proximity switch 47 detects a connecting portion 6 of a mandrel 4 inserted into a trim portion 1, and a die set 17 in which the trim portion 1 is clamped by rubber grips 26 is controlled and positioned to place the connecting portion 6 immediately below a movable blade 35. After that, the movable blade 35 is pushed down in a state wherein a receiving blade 31 is inserted into the trim portion 1 to support the trim portion 1 from the lower side, and then cuts the connecting portion 6 in cooperation with the receiving blade 31. After cutting, the rubber grips 26 on both sides of a section are pulled in directions apart from each other, a cutter 32 arranged on the same plane of the movable blade 35 is inserted into the section in a state wherein the section is extended, and the trim portion 1 is cut at the position between rib pieces.
