The present disclosure provides advantageous methods for controlling an ultra high voltage (UHV) light emitting diode (LED) device. In one embodiment, a method includes routing a first constant step current through a plurality of LED junction modules disposed over a substrate, each of the plurality of LED junction modules coupled in parallel to one another, and each of the plurality of LED junction modules including a plurality of LED junctions coupled in series. The method further includes reconfiguring a coupling scheme of the plurality of LED junction modules, and routing a second constant step current through the plurality of LED junction modules to provide a substantially same load to each LED junction.
