The invention relates to a method of increasing seed yield and stimulating the growth of monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous plants through increased expression of the TMT protein (transporter of monosaccharides in the tonoplast) in isogenic or transgenic plant cells. The invention also relates to a transgenic plant having the property of increased seed yield and enhanced growth compared to the wild type containing a nucleotide sequence that encodes the TMT protein, as well as a regulatory nucleotide sequence functionally associated with it, to control the increased expression of the TMT protein gene in the plant cell transgenic plants. It also relates to the use of transgenic plants for the cultivation and production of cultivated plants and useful plants or biomass, oils or proteins derived from them.
