The invention relates to the production of a low-molecular-weight recombinant metalloproteinase, in which the gene that codes for said metalloproteinase is obtained from the cDNA of Trichomonas vaginalis grown in the presence of Zn+2 and the gene is amplified using specific primers by means of the PCR technique. Said recombinant protein can be used for the diagnosis of trichomoniasis in men, since it has an optimal expression in the presence of Zn+2.
