The roll (1) comprises a roll element having a roll jacket (2) made of a basic material such as steel and a wearing coat (6), which is applied to the basic material by a surface welding process using a welding additive and surrounds a surface (3) of the roll jacket. A welded-on surface of the roll is designed as a single-layer weld. The zone of the wearing coat surrounding the surface of the roll jacket in a thickness of 2.5 mm has same chemical composition. Independent claims are included for: (1) a method for producing a roll for supporting and conveying hot material; (2) a method for repairing a roll for supporting and conveying hot material used during the operation; (3) a welding additive for producing a welded-on surface on a roll jacket of a roll; and (4) a welding rod for producing a welded-on surface on a roll jacket of a roll.
