Invention herewith described refers to the obtaining alginate hydro gel micro particles with incorporated silver nanoparticles. Alginate micro particles with incorporated silver nanoparticles are obtained by a new procedure that involves the electrochemical synthesis of silver nanoparticles in the Na-alginate solution and extrusion of the obtained colloidal solution in the form of droplets into the divalent cation salt solution. The incorporation of nanoparticles within the micro particles compared to immobilization on the surface allows higher concentrations of nanoparticles and prolonged release of nanoparticles. Likewise, the incorporation of nanoparticles into pure alginate micros particles has advantages of a simple chemical composition and a simple techniques for obtaining good control of gelation, and therewith the control of the concentration and distribution of silver nanoparticles in the end product. Alginate micro particles with incorporated silver nanoparticles can be used in wet or dry form as the biocompatible carriers and/or efficient donors of the silver nanoparticles as an active component in all applications where the nanoparticles are used (e.g., medicine, pharmacy, catalysis, optics).
