The invention relates to investigation of properties of solid materials. A method for the determination of characteristics of strain strengthening of structural steels includes operations of stretching standard smooth cylindrical sample along one axis at different temperatures within interval from 4K to 293K, with determination of basic mechanical characteristics and characteristics of real breaking stress of the sample Sand relative uniform elongation , with plotting experimental dependences of resistance at plastic deformation in the region of non-uniform deformations lg = f(lge), those are characterized with maintenance of linearity properties and presence of break at which the angle of inclination of the dependence is increased or decreased, with determination of the group of the alloy depending on the ratio of the values of characteristics of deformation strengthening at deformations smaller and larger than uniform, with following plotting experimental dependences for each group of alloys, calculation on the basis of those of empirical coefficients and determination of characteristics of strain strengthening by formulas given in the description of the invention. The invention makes it possible to determine the characteristics of strain strengthening of structural steels or alloys in the region of non-uniform deformation by data of basic mechanical characteristics , ,only, and the characteristics of relative uniform elongation more accurately and self-descriptively. This leads to possibility to carry out complex analysis of properties of structural steels and alloys and to determine more accurately the characteristics of brittle fracture strength and mechanical stability, i.e. to evaluate ability of those alloys to be resistant with respect to transition to brittle state.
